We can’t believe it but it’s already April, and we’re less than two weeks away from our favorite weekend, Coachella. Not a lot of people know this but Alyssa and I’s “Friends-Anniversary” is Coachella, so it makes this festival even more special. 2018 will be our fourth year at Coachella together, and we can’t help but reminisce about some of our most memorable experiences.
Over the years, who are our favorite performances?
Remember that scene from “10 Things I Hate About You,” and Heath Ledger’s character said,
“So I’m supposed to … listen to chicks who can’t play their instruments.”
NOT TRUE! Some of our most memorable performances are female musicians. Even thinking back to our first Coachella in 2015, watching Lykke Li on stage blew our minds! Most artists don’t sound as good as their albums, but she did! She was flawless and looked like a goddess on stage. Her performance may be one of the few shows in my life where I truly felt present. Those are the ones you don’t ever forget.
Any disappointing experiences?
Every year there is an average of 150 performers. That’s a lot, so it’s bound for people to have some unsatisfying experiences. Maybe the sound’s off or they’re too many people at that set, so you don’t get a close enough spot, or you can’t find your friends. Honestly, it’s tough to disappoint us, we don’t have a long list but the one and only that stands out to us is sadly Drake. WE LOVE DRAKE! BUT WHAT WAS HE THINKING!!! We had such high expectations. In 2015 he came out with “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” album so the hype was real. Drake did play some of his hits and it was ok. Mind you, in week one he brought out a surprise guest, Madonna and remember that infamous kiss? So, since he was closing weekend two we were hoping for something big or at least a good show. No, we got a glimpse of Nicki Minaj crossing the stage and he ended with a slow song. Nice work, Drake!
What are we looking forward to in 2018?
Honestly, I told myself last year that I was going to take a break from Coachella and explore other festivals but when I heard Beyonce canceled her 2017 appearance and rescheduled for 2018, I couldn’t help but find myself spending the last year planning the next one.
Come on! When am I ever going to see Beyonce? And seeing her guarantees an unforgettable performance. She truly knows how to put on a good show. I mean, I thought she’d still be able to pull it off last year when she was pregnant. We’re also excited to see Wethan, Ekali, Alina Baraz, Louis the Child, Odesza, Cardi B, San Holo, and many more. Check out our GOTM Coachella Playlist on Spotify. We made it especially for you.
